August 16 T-Mobile USA to sell HTC "G1" Dream Android device A few months ago, Google formed an alliance, called the
Android Alliance. Android is a Linux-based mobile OS, that is supposed
to be open-sourced allows companies to make software for the OS
platform, and allows the users to have more apps made available to
them. T-Mobile USA as well as Sprint, signed up a few months ago, to support the Google Android OS. T-Mobile USA has been the main supporter of the software and has been pushing HTC, which is one of the manufacturers making devices for the Android software. HTC has been so tied up lately by being committed to T-Mobile's upcoming Android device that, Sprint has to wait til next year to have their device come into fruitation. Verizon and AT&T haven't been really interested in the Android OS hype. AT&T is tied up with Apple right now, making and improving you know what. Cough, I-phone, cough. Verizon might not seem to be interested since they like to control their devices, and what the customer can and can not do, thanks to the V-Cast OS. T-Mobile USA will be offering a device called the HTC "G1" Dream device which will be offered as a pre-sale to their current customers in September, while offering the device to new customers sometime in October. T-Mobile USA is expecting this device and new OS to take off and provide some direct competition to Apple's iPhone device, which made it's way into the spotlight in June 2007. The iPhone 3G, the updated model to the model sold in June 2007, was launched last month, on July 11th. Here is an article by the NY Times regarding this upcoming device, and how T-Mobile ties to this: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/15/technology/15google.html?_r=1&oref=slogin There will be more news regarding T-Mobile USA soon, once more news comes down the pipes.
